Connect with a Walking Breath
As you walk outside to explore, try breathing in as you lift one foot and breathing out as you put your foot down. Repeat as you take a step forward with your other foot. Again, breathing in as you lift your foot and out as you set it down. This takes practice… begin slowly. Walk a short distance very slowly and deliberately.
Explore
Return to your sit spot or choose a place in your yard, on your balcony, a local park, etc. to observe the world using your senses of touch, sight, sound, feel, and taste. Take note, on paper or silently, about the things you notice. Notice if you feel the wind or see the wind move objects nearby.
Focus on the wind. Ask yourself:
- Can I see it? Feel it? Smell it? Hear it? Taste it?
- How do I know it’s there?
- What evidence, or proof, do I have to know it is present? (Examples could be seeing leaves moving or hearing them rustle.)
Record your answers in your Nature Notebook.
Explore how strong the wind is in your location. Is it blowing softly or hard? What signs or clues help you determine the strength of the wind? Try using the scale below to assist you.
The wind uses energy (the ability to do work) to make leaves rustle or to make a flag move. What are other things the wind does for us? Write down as many things as you can in your Nature Notebook.
