Male and Female Nothern Cardinals

The scarlet male cardinal needs no introduction, but the female is less obvious. She is yellow-brown with a dusty red tinge. She is shaped like her mate--her head displays the familiar cardinal crest, red beak and black beak outline. Cardinals are common year-round in southern Wisconsin, less common in the north.

The northern cardinal will eat oil-type or hulled sunflower seeds at your feeder.
