The water mite is a round critter with eight legs and one eye. It is usually red in color, but it can be blue, green or spotted. Its small legs make it hard for it to swim. It does just fine in quiet water, but in fast water its round body makes it tumble through the current. The mite s favorite pastime is to crawl into a juicy dead animal and eat away. It also likes a dinner of tiny microscopic animals. Because it is so small it can get all the oxygen it needs right through its skin.
